A Summer's Walk

Yesterday, while the rest of the family were resting... :)

Mum and I went for a walk. Just the two of us, which was special!
We stopped to pick some beautiful reeds.

At this time of year, they are just right for picking. The golden-coloured
seeds are in their full bloom of colour!

Mum remembers her mother drying these reeds in pots,
and putting them around the house. So we picked armfuls,
to take to my Grandma's.

It was such a special afternoon, tramping around the rustling reeds
in gumboots, finding new colours under the shade of the overhanging

For a summer afternoon, it was beautifully cool near the

This bird obligingly paused for a moment :)

Earlier that afternoon, I had been feeling troubled and 'ruffled'.
But after walking for a time, and picking reeds, I was filled
with a new thanksgiving.

"...He is faithful that promised"!

By faith, Moses was hidden in a basket among the rushes of
a river.
The Lord protected, preserved and delivered him as he
lay amid the rushes, a helpless baby.

"By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called
the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to
enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

"Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the
treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence
of the reward.

"By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king:
for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible."
(Hebrews 11: 24 - 27)

"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised)"!
(Hebrews 10: 23)

Thank you for sharing this, Maddy. It looks like a lovely walk you had.

I truly love this Scripture passage... "...Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence
of the reward." I'm always challenged by this part especially. Amen, for He is faithful that promised! May we cling to Jesus more and more! In His love, dear sister,

Dearest Maddy;

Thank you for this post, my dear sister. It has blessed me so much this morning.

Last night I had a similar situation - only I was troubled and discouraged with no cause. I sat down on my bed and wrote in my diary listing off all the things the Lord had done for me that day.
Slowly He brought to memory how I can, of myself, do nothing - not even please Him. Only through Him and His Life in me can I at all please and honor Him.

This morning I feel so much better and full of His Strength as the evil one has been made to flee.

Praise the Lord Jesus! :)

Thank you for this post, dearest sister, and may He bless and keep and guide you.

Your sister with much love;

My dearest sister, Maddy,

What a true blessing your post was to me this morning. :) And is!

I loved to see the pictures of your walk. :) It almost made me to feel like I had been with you, which I know would've been so lovely. Except then it wouldn't have been just the two of you, and oh how precious that is indeed!

I am thankful the Lord gave you such a wonderful opportunity to walk together. And I have to say Violet is adorable in her little basket. :) Thank you for this lovely post Maddy.

But dearest sister, the part that blesses me the most is the Scripture you shared, and the work the Lord did within you yesterday.
Truly I am sorry to hear that you felt uneasy at all, but I also rejoice that our Lord teaches us through this "ruffled" feeling. (I love that expression of it too.)

And so I thank and praise Him that indeed in a period of trouble, you turned your eyes upon the Lord Jesus, my dearest sister. :) May we all learn to have this period of a new thanksgiving! It is a gift, and I praise the Lord Jesus with you sister, for granting it to you in your time of need!

I have been praying much for you dear sister, and I will. :) May our Savior bless you in a very very special way.

With so much love, your sister in Christ,

Dearest Maddy,
Thanks for sharing your lovely walk with us:) The outdoors and the peacefulness of God's creation often heals and soothes our souls. It has a way of bringing you closer to the Saviour and Creator.

The verses are very special too. I love these 'by faith' chapters in Hebrews. They are so encouraging and faith-building.

May the Lord bless you.

Such beautiful photographs! It looks and sounds like you and your mother had a delightful walk together. :) I truly love taking nature walks, for then I can enjoy all of the beautiful creations of nature.

I liked how at the end, you tied-in the story of Moses with your post. Good choice. :)

Thank you for leaving a kind comment on my blog as well as "following." I was just visiting your blog earlier today and thought, "She seems like a lovely person." :) Well, now you have a new friend and "follow." :)

Dear Joy,

This Scripture passage especially stands out for me too. "For He is faithful that promised"... Amen, dear sister, and in the Lord only, by His strength and grace, can we come out of Egypt and follow the Shepherd!
It was lovely to hear from you, I pray this is a special time of rest for your family before study and work start up again!

Dearest April,

This testimony was very encouraging, sister. The Lord is faithful! He is faithful to 'bring these things to memory'!
It is beautiful how as you wrote of Him with praise and thanksgiving, He filled you with His strength and peace. May we early and always praise Him, as did David in the Psalms!

I pray you are feeling better now, dear sister,
With love,

Dearest sister Carra,

It would've been so special to have you with us, on that walk! It was precious to have that time with Mum :). Maybe, one day if the Lord wills, you will indeed be able to walk with us beside those reeds! How lovely that would be.
Thank you for sharing this. May we fix our eyes upon our Saviour, Jesus, in the very hour of trouble. It is a wonderful moment when we see Him through this trouble which has been clouding us, isn't it. And then our hearts are filled with this new thanksgiving!

I cherish your prayers, dear sister. May He bless you and your precious family,

Dear Shaz,

Truly it was such a treasure to spend this time with Mum! You must also have such lovely walks on the peaceful beach that is in some of your photos. That must be a very special walk to take every year, Shaz. Thank you for sharing this special memory of the 4th of January.
There was a particular place where I loved to pray, especially in the days following my spiritual birthday a couple of years ago. It was behind an old shed in our garden. A few weeks ago I went to go out, and remembered with sadness that the old shed had been knocked down and taken away, not long before :). Still the memory is so special.
With love in Him,

Dearest Sarah,

Thinking of this, reminded me of the time when we all sat on the edge of that quiet water and were looking at the rising moon, and sharing about the Lord. Truly, being out in nature the work of His Hands, has a special way of bringing us closer to Him.
I saw your new post earlier, and mean to read it this afternoon if the Lord wills! It will be wonderful to spend more time in Hebrews 11!

Dear Mara,

It was a great encouragement to hear from you today, sister! Thank you for leaving this special comment and following my blog, how I love to meet new friends and sisters in the Lord :).

This walk was a special time for us, and we would love to go more often. Although we came home with itchy arms from touching the reeds, it was worth it to be able to take a large bunch of them to my Nana's place! After all these years, the reeds were just the same variety that she used to dry, and decorate her house with. She loved the surprise :).

God bless you,
Your sister,
